The difference between Vitamin D, D2 and D3
Vitamin D is known in two forms: D2 and D3. D2 is produced by plants and mushrooms (often in cereals, milk or bread), but D3 is mainly found in animal products. D3 from animal foods is most similar to those produced by the body when exposed to the sun. Because of this similarity, many doctors recommend vitamin D3 as an essential dietary supplement.
Vitamin D3 has an impact on almost 2000 different genes in the body and a direct effect on your health.
Vitamin D receptors are found in every cell in the body. When this vitamin is detected, it will activate the receptor and bring about changes at the cellular level. Recent studies show that besides improving the absorption of minerals (! very important to be able to absorb them properly) it also reduces the risk of cancer and strengthens the immune system (less sick, that's what we all want, isn't it?).
Strong bones are the result of a good supply of vitamin D3 because it helps to regulate and control the body's ability to absorb phosphorus and calcium. Regular intake of vitamin D3 can improve the strength of bones and teeth.
Vitamin D3 stimulates the pancreas and stimulates insulin production. It plays an important role in regulating blood sugar levels. Fewer sugar dips that make you tired and a great help for people with diabetes in controlling their insulin.
A study by Boston University showed that higher arterial pressure was associated with a higher risk of low vitamin D levels. The intake of vitamin D3 reduces the concentration of certain enzymes secreted by the kidneys that affect the blood vessels.
Studies provide evidence that vitamin D3 intake has positive effects on slowing tumour progression.
It is also possible to combine the effects of vitamins with fibre or calcium. The latter combination, for example, will reduce the risk of cancer, as shown by a study of post-menopausal women whose post-menopausal risks were reduced by as much as 60%.
A possible link with breast cancer was also demonstrated. A study conducted on 166 women with cancer showed results showing that 70% of the patients had too low vitamin D levels.
The presence of vitamin D also helps regulate heart function and reduces the risk of heart attacks. Some researchers believe that this may have to do with the fact that vitamin D acts as a cardiac sedative and improves stamina.
One of the greatest benefits of vitamin D3 is undoubtedly its influence on mood. Many people suffer from seasonal affective disorders and generally feel happier when the sun shines through the synthesis of vitamin D3 during direct exposure to sunlight. However, increasing your vitamin D level is not only a good boost, it also significantly reduces symptoms of depression. Other treatments may be necessary, but a good vitamin D level is an important basis for happy thoughts!

The production of vitamin D is mainly activated by sunlight on the skin. It is generally insufficiently obtained from the diet.
